MTC Adopts Positions on Upcoming Local and State Ballot Measures

Each election cycle, MTC evaluates local and statewide measures that will affect transportation funding and policy in the San Francisco Bay Area. On September 22, 2010, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission supported the $10 per vehicle registration fee increases appearing on the ballot in seven of nine Bay Area counties this November and adopted positions on four statewide ballot measures. Below are links to MTC staff’s analysis of Propositions 22, 23, 25 and 26.

  • Proposition 22: Prohibits the State from Taking Funds Used for Transportation or Local Government Projects and Services (Support)
  • Proposition 23: Suspends air pollution control laws requiring major polluters to report and reduce greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming until unemployment remains below specified level for full year (Oppose)
  • Proposition 25: Changes legislative vote requirement to pass a budget from two-thirds to a simple majority; retains two-thirds vote requirement for taxes (Support)
  • Proposition 26: Increases Legislative Vote Requirement to Two-Thirds for State Levies and Charges. Imposes Additional Requirement for Voters to Approve Local Levies and Charges with Limited Exceptions (Oppose)
