Public transit doesn’t just get you where you need to go, it can also take you on adventures all around the Bay Area! Here are a few choice destinations to consider the next time you want to take a car-free trip.

Alameda County

The Pacific Pinball Museum is a hands-on arcade featuring pinball machines that go back to the 1940s.

  • Take the San Francisco Bay Ferry from the SF Ferry Building to the Seaplane Lagoon ferry terminal, then hop on an AC Transit 78 bus.
  • From the East Bay, take an AC Transit bus - the 20, 51A or 96 will get you there.

Contra Costa County

The trails at Point Pinole Regional Shoreline park feature wildflowers, eucalyptus woods, beaches and views of Mt. Tamalpais, the Marin shoreline and San Pablo Bay.

  • Take BART to the Richmond station, then AC Transit 71 bus.

Marin County

Sausalito features a unique community of houseboats permanently moored on the bay in downtown Sausalito. To get there:

  • From Marin County, take Marin Transit bus 17 or 61, or take Golden Gate Transit bus 130.
  • From San Francisco, take the Golden Gate Ferry to Sausalito, or take Golden Gate Transit bus 101 or 130.

Napa County

For those interested in a relaxing overnight trip, consider the famous hot springs and mud baths in Calistoga.

  • From San Francisco and Marin County, start by taking Golden Gate Transit’s 580 bus, then switch to The Vine 29 bus, and transfer to The Vine route 10.
  • From the East Bay, first take BART to Richmond. Then get on The Vine 29 bus before transferring to The Vine route 10.

  • Take Muni’s 25 bus.

  • From Marin County, take Amtrak/Capitol Corridor to Martinez, then transfer to the SolTrans R bus.
  • From Solano County, take SolTrans route B bus and transfer to the SolTrans R bus.
  • From Contra Costa County or Alameda County, take BART to Richmond, then the SolTrans R bus.
