State Advocacy

State legislators work on a range of policies that specifically affect Bay Area transportation, and it’s important that our voice is heard.

MTC ensures our region has a place at the table by helping inform and shape new legislative proposals in Sacramento.

MTC also briefs our partner agencies in the Bay Area on risks and opportunities presented by new legislation. We team with these agencies to develop a coordinated response.

We track all bills related to:

  • Transportation funding
  • Public transportation
  • Bicycle and pedestrian policy
  • Climate change
  • Affordable housing
  • Land use
  • Environmental regulations
  • Air quality
  • Clean vehicle incentives

MTC’s state and federal advocacy efforts are guided by its Legislation Committee

Committee meetings cover the latest developments in Sacramento and Washington, as well as recommendations by MTC staff to support or oppose particular bills.

Our Partnership Legislative Committee provides a forum to consult on key policy matters with legislative staff from the Bay Area’s cities and counties, public transit agencies, and county congestion management agencies.
