Spare the Air Youth is an MTC-sponsored program that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from cars and trucks by educating, inspiring and empowering Bay Area youth and their families to walk, bicycle, carpool and take transit.
Spare the Air Youth is a partnership between MTC and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District that builds on the Air District’s long-established Spare the Air campaign.
The Spare the Air Youth program is designed for K-12 kids and teens.
It includes games and activities, classroom materials for teachers and resources for parents.
Find guides, games and more fun and educational resources when you visit the Spare the Air Youth website.
Safe Routes to School
Spare the Air Youth also supports Bay Area Safe Routes to School.
This program also aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by providing safe and direct access to schools, training for students, and encouragement and information for families.
The 2020 YES Conference has been postponed.
The YES Conference is a free, annual event that brings together middle- and high-school students from the nine San Francisco Bay Area counties (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma) to discuss solutions to the climate change crisis. The young adults' goal is to raise awareness of how our transportation choices affect our families, our communities, our air and our planet. Here you can see two minutes of the all-day event.
The YES Conference is sponsored by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.
A highlight of the Spare the Air Youth program is the annual YES conference.
Short for Youth for the Environment and Sustainability, the YES conference is a daylong event where middle- and high-school students from around the Bay Area join together to:
- Discuss transportation issues
- Learn how their decisions can impact climate change
- Share ways of encouraging others to walk, bike, take transit or carpool to school
