Wednesday, October 3, 2018

MTC is partnering with Caltrans and the Contra Costa Transportation Authority to provide travel options that will improve traffic congestion on I-680 in Contra Costa County.

MTC opened Express Lanes between Walnut Creek and San Ramon in October 2017 and broke ground in October 2018 on a new project to establish a southbound Express Lane from Martinez all the way to the Alameda County line.

MTC and its partners will:

  1. Build a southbound express lane from Marina Vista Avenue in Martinez to Rudgear Road in Walnut Creek by adding a lane and converting existing carpool lanes.
  2. Build a northbound express lane from North Main Street in Walnut Creek to Marina Vista Avenue in Martinez by adding a lane and converting existing carpool lanes.

Project 1 is under construction and scheduled to be complete by 2021. Learn more about project construction.

The schedule for Project 2 will be determined once funding is secured.
