OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 30, 2014 . . .Artful Steps, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), proudly announces a group art exhibit featuring the work of people with developmental disabilities. On the Move includes over 70 works of various mediums by the artists in the Artful Steps program of Stepping Stones Growth Center. In this exhibit, the Artful Steps artists explore the diverse means of transportation found in the Bay Area. From biking to BART, sailing to flying, each form of movement displays the freedom of choice intrinsic to this region and its people.

The artwork is on display until Jan. 9, 2015, at MTC’s Joseph P. Bort MetroCenter, 101 8th Street, 3rd Floor, in Oakland, across from the Lake Merritt BART station. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays. For additional information, visit www.mtc.ca.gov/about_mtc/art_gallery/.

A reception will be held on Thursday, Oct. 2, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and the public is welcome to attend.

The Artful Steps program and MTC have collaborated on annual art events for many years. This partnership has a unique history: As Artful Steps artists utilize the services of public transportation and paratransit to travel to and from art class, they are grateful for the work of the Commission to improve mobility and the opportunity to display their work in this setting.

MTC is the transportation planning, financing and coordinating agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area.
