MTC Seeks Bay Area Residents to Fill Advisory Committee Vacancies
OAKLAND, CA — Do you know people who want to contribute their time and talent to improve Bay Area transportation? The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is seeking applicants to fill several vacancies on its Minority Citizens Advisory Committee (MCAC) and its Elderly and Disabled Advisory Committee (EDAC), and one vacancy on the Advisory Council. The deadline for applications is Monday, October 27; however, applications will be accepted until all positions are filled.
“MTC must make transportation policy and investment decisions that serve all Bay Area residents,” said MTC Chair Bill Dodd. “MTC’s advisory committees give a voice to a range of viewpoints that enhance our decision-making process. I encourage anyone interested in helping us improve Bay Area mobility to apply for a seat.”
MTC wants to ensure its working groups include individuals who will offer varying perspectives to inform and influence its major transportation policy and funding decisions. Seats on MTC’s three advisory committees reflect the range of stakeholders interested in the transportation network, including members from ethnic minority and low-income communities and persons with disabilities and seniors.
Vacancies on the Minority Citizens Advisory Committee remain in Contra Costa County for a representative from the Latino community; in Napa County for a representative from the African-American or Asian community; in San Francisco for a representative from the Latino community; in San Mateo County for a representative from the Asian community; in Santa Clara County for representatives from both the African-American and Asian communities; in Solano County for two representatives from either the African-American, Asian or Latino community; and in Sonoma County for two representatives from the African-American, Asian, or Latino community.
Vacancies on the Elderly and Disabled Advisory Committee remain in San Francisco for a representative of the disabled community and in Santa Clara County for representatives of both the disabled and elderly communities. In addition, one vacancy remains on the Advisory Council for an individual with an engineering background.

No particular educational background is needed for most seats, just an interest in transportation and how it affects residents in each of the aforementioned counties. Experience in working with the community or on community-related issues is desirable. Committee members are expected to attend monthly meetings held at MTC’s offices in Oakland during business hours, and to serve out the remainder of a two-year term. While positions are voluntary, committee members do receive a stipend for their attendance at certain meetings.
