MTC, Motivate and Ford Motor Co. on Sept. 9, 2016 announced a seven-year partnership agreement with Ford through which the Bay Area Bike Share program will be rebranded as Ford GoBike, and will expand the region's bike share fleet to 7,000 bicycles from the current 700. Expansion plans include the first-ever bike sharing locations in Oakland, Berkeley and Emeryville, as well as major additions to the bike share fleet in San Francisco and San Jose. Participants in the announcement event at San Francisco's Civic Center Plaza included Ford President and CEO Mark Fields; Motivate CEO Jay H. Walder; San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee; MTC Chair and Santa Clara County Supervisor Dave Cortese; San Jose Mayor and MTC Commissioner Sam Liccardo; and Berkeley Mayor and MTC Commissioner Tom Bates. The first expansion locations are slated to open in the spring of 2017.
