Bay Bridge Steel Repurposed for Art

The Toll Bridge Program Oversight Committee approved in 2014 a program to salvage some 450 tons of steel from the old eastern span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge for creative reuse in public art and exhibitions throughout the state. You can see the first two Bay Bridge steel installations yourself either in Joshua Tree or Truckee, or in this video update. The first sculptural installation in the Bay Area – Tom Loughlin’s SIGNAL -- opens on September 22, 2019 on Treasure Island.
