The public is invited to attend an online community meeting for the West Oakland Link project on Thursday, December 17, 2020, from 6 to 7 p.m. Hosted by the Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA), the Zoom meeting will allow people to learn more about the Link, including the planning timeline, funding and future opportunities for public input.

The West Oakland Link is a proposed 1.1-mile-long elevated pedestrian and bicycle pathway that will connect Mandela Parkway in West Oakland with the existing Bay Bridge path, the newly opened Judge John Sutter Regional Shoreline, Yerba Buena Island, Treasure Island and, eventually, downtown San Francisco. The Link also will connect Oakland’s growing network of walking and biking routes with the greater San Francisco Bay Trail.
Located in an area of heavy industry, the Port of Oakland, rail and freeway infrastructure, the Link will enhance public safety by enabling residents of West Oakland and the greater East Bay to bike and walk on a lighted structure separate from truck and rail traffic. The estimated $65 million project will likely be implemented in phases depending on the availability funds. Initial funding is being provided by BATA and the Alameda County Transportation Commission. Other project partners include the City of Oakland and Caltrans.
The virtual public meeting is designed to offer the community an opportunity to learn more about the current work, to ask questions and to provide comments prior to the start of the formal environmental review process in 2021.
