New Vista Point at Yerba Buena Island
The San Francisco County Transportation Authority, in cooperation with the Bay Area Toll Authority, Caltrans and Treasure Island Development Authority, opened the Vista Point visitor area on Yerba Buena Island on May 2, 2017.
Situated at the western terminus of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge bicycle-pedestrian path, Vista Point is designed as a relaxation and rejuvenation area for visitors to Yerba Buena Island. Featuring restrooms, benches, a hydration station and bike racks, Vista Point offers sweeping views of the east span of the Bay Bridge and Oakland.
Caltrans says the path will be closed intermittently for future bridge work, including the removal of the old span’s remaining piers later this year. But for now, the path is to be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week. The evening hours will be extended to 9 p.m. starting Memorial Day weekend and continuing through Labor Day, September 4.
Vista Point was a joint investment of 2-million dollars, split evenly between the San Francisco Transportation Authority and the Bay Area Toll Authority.
