North Bay Youths Tell Transit Stories

Teenagers in Marin, Sonoma and Napa Counties love public transit. But don't take our word for it.

Armed with Go-Pro cameras supplied by MTC, youths in these three areas took videos of their own transit rides and narrated their experiences. What resulted is a clear message that public transit is central to the young people's lives: it enables them to cheaply and easily go to their friends' houses, the movie theater, the outlet stores in Napa and, importantly, to feel a sense of independence.

Many of these youths are clearly already transit veterans. They have well-loved Clipper cards, know how to check the bus schedules on their smart phones and bring bikes on transit. But these videos will encourage their less experienced peers to follow suit. TAM and the Marin Bicycle Coalition — recipients of a Spare the Air Youth grant from MTC and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District — will use the videos in their Youth on Transit program, which aims to encourage transit use among suburban youth.

MTC videographer Mark Jones converted the raw footage into fun videos for each of the three areas. Watch them below.
