East Bay bus riders will see major changes to bus routes and schedules on August 10, when AC Transit and Tri Delta Transit enact service improvements designed to match how the East Bay travels today.

AC Transit, which offers bus service to 1.5 million residents in Alameda and Contra Costa counties, developed an all-new bus network known as Realign to deliver more frequent and more reliable service with improved connections between lines. Shaped by two years of community outreach, planning, and research, the network is designed to be more flexible, allowing AC Transit to adapt to shifting ridership patterns and the evolving needs of the East Bay’s communities.

Service changes will affect many lines throughout the AC Transit service network. These may include the route, the schedule, or full or partial replacement with a different line. Review the Realign service change chart on the AC Transit website.

Tri Delta Transit, which provides over 2 million trips each year to eastern Contra Costa County residents, also is poised to launch a significant realignment of its bus system on August 10 by offering service that is faster, more direct and more frequent for riders. The agency took on a comprehensive, year-long analysis, known as Revitalize Tri Delta Transit, to explore ways to improve transit service in East County.

The new bus network, grounded in feedback from the community and technical analysis, will bring changes to nearly every bus route in the Tri Delta Transit system. With service every 30 minutes, the new network aim to lower wait times for existing riders, provide better connectivity to BART and attract more new riders.

Busier areas will see more frequent and consistent service, with improved weekend service across the board. The updated system introduces a brand-new route running every 15 minutes, along with four additional routes operating every 30 minutes, making morning commutes smoother for bus riders. These major bus network changes for AC Transit and Tri Delta Transit coincide with many other agencies' coordinated rollout of new schedules. Dubbed “The Big Sync,” Bay Area transit agencies synchronize their schedules to improve transfers between systems and agree to coordinate future schedule changes twice a year: in mid-January and in mid-August.
