College Students: Paid Mentorship Program Application Now Open

College and university students are encouraged to apply to the Bay Area’s Ann Fitzgerald Flemer College Mentorship Program. This paid opportunity offers students professional work experience in transportation planning, finance and operational projects at MTC.

Mentees will be paid to work with a dedicated mentor from June 22 through August 14, 2026, both at the Bay Area Metro Center in downtown San Francisco and remotely. 

During the eight-week program, mentees will be involved in a variety of tasks aimed at expanding their range of career interests and encouraging them to consider government work as a future career choice.

Mentees will be matched with an area of interest that may include working with one or more of these MTC departments:

  • Bay Area Housing Finance Authority
  • Bay Area Regional Collaborative
  • Budget, Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Capital Delivery, Asset Management & Roadside Tolling
  • Clipper
  • Data, Strategy and Analytics
  • Energy
  • Funding, Policy & Programs
  • Human Resources
  • Legislation & Public Affairs
  • Office of the Chief Operating Officer
  • Procurement Risk & Property Management
  • Regional Network Management
  • Regional Planning Program – Equity Regional Planning and Policy
  • Regional Planning Program – Housing & Local Planning
  • San Francisco Estuary Partnership
  • Sustainable Mobility & Operations
  • Technology Services 

To be considered for this mentorship program, you must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited community college or university, a four-year undergraduate program or a graduate program, preferably within the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area. Individuals who already graduated (no earlier than December 2025) may be considered up to eight months post-graduation.

MTC is looking for students who are majoring in or planning to major in fields such as Business Administration, Public Administration, Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, City and Regional Planning, Urban Studies, Public Policy, Government Relations, Marketing, Natural Science, Finance/Accounting and Information Systems/Computer Science. Applications from students in other fields of study or with undeclared majors also will be considered.
