Bay Area Affordable Housing Bond
A Bay Area affordable housing bond had been proposed for the November 2024 ballot. Leaders of the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority and the Association of Bay Area Governments issued a joint statement on the decision to remove it. This difficult decision will not deter BAHFA from continuing its work to produce and preserve affordable housing and protect vulnerable residents across the Bay Area.
A $20 billion dollar bond was estimated to have the potential create 72,000 new affordable homes — more than double what would be possible without a bond.
Virtual Workshops
Two virtual workshops were held in August 2023 for all members of the public to learn about the proposed housing measure, ask questions and provide feedback to BAHFA.

Public Meetings & Engagement
BAHFA’s governing boards held a series of public meetings on the proposed housing bond throughout spring 2024. These meetings included discussions on BAHFA’s spending plan for its share of proposed bond funding and whether to place the housing measure on the November 2024 ballot. Public participation was encouraged and helped inform all key decision points. On June 26, 2024, at a publicly noticed meeting, the BAHFA Board voted to place the measure on the ballot. On August 14, 2024, the BAHFA Board voted to remove the bond from the ballot.
