Bike to Work Day
Since many people are working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bay Area’s annual Bike to Work Day celebration was celebrated as Bike to Wherever Day in 2021.
The MTC-sponsored Bay Area Bike to Work Day has been one of the biggest bicycle commute celebrations in the U.S. over the past two decades — with nearly 100,000 annual participants.
To encourage social distancing during the pandemic, the entire month of May 2021 was designated as Bike to Wherever Month, with May 21st as National Bike to Wherever Day.
To help cyclists pedal safely, each of the nine Bay Area county bike coalitions offered classes and activities to help cyclists build community, find new routes and learn to use bicycles as a means of transportation.
The May 21st celebration was the centerpiece of National Bike Month. This month-long program celebrated biking as a healthy, fun and viable mode for everyday transportation.
Visit the Bike to Wherever Day website for all the details on how the program adapted during the COVID-19 crisis.
MTC works closely with the Bay Area Bicycle Coalition (BABC) to put together the annual Bay Area Bike to Work Day event. BABC works directly with the organizations that plan and put on local events. These organizations include:
