Incentivizing Active & Shared Transportation Pilot Program

MTC’s Incentivizing Active and Shared Transportation Pilot Program rewards program participants as it aims to learn how Bay Area residents are making local trips today.

Noah Berger

The Bay Area’s local transportation system has changed dramatically in the wake of COVID-19. Long-established commuting habits have changed, and the transportation system may also need to change in the future to better serve the community.

MTC is funding a research project – the Incentivizing Active and Shared Transportation Pilot Program – to learn how residents are now making local trips. The project is being supported by Metropia, Inc. and their GoEzy trip planning app.

By learning how and why people make commuting decisions, we can help shape the future of travel in the Bay Area.

Benefits of Joining the Study

The data and opinions you provide through your participation in this study will inform how transportation in the region might look in the future.

Additionally, for each week of participation in the program, users will be rewarded. You'll earn $5 in gift cards, cash cards or charitable donations, for a total of up to $130 for the 6-month study.

How to Participate

  • Answer a short survey to determine if you qualify. If you are eligible to participate, you will receive an invitation email from MTC project partner Metropia, Inc. within 3 days of signing up.
  • It’s easy to receive rewards for participating in the program. Once you are registered, use Metropia’s GoEzy app a few times a week for navigation when traveling around town.
  • Occasionally, the app may ask you a quick question about your travel experiences, preferences or needs. Simply tap your answer right there on the screen.
  • The app may also offer some additional incentives for you to consider trying out new transportation options, such as leaving a little earlier or later than normal, or taking an alternative mode like transit or biking.
