Bay Trail Needs, Operations & Maintenance Assessment
The Bay Trail Needs, Operations and Maintenance Assessment (NOMA) will define needed access improvements and amenities, and develop Bay Trail maintenance recommendations.
Engagement with local agency partners and community during the Bay Trail Equity Strategy and the Bay Trail Gap Closure Implementation Plan projects confirmed that access, amenities and maintenance are key contributors to use and enjoyment of the Bay Trail.
The Bay Trail Needs, Operations and Maintenance Assessment (NOMA) addresses the need to better understand the current conditions, amenities and access to the Bay Trail. It will provide guidance on operations and maintenance best practices to ensure the Bay Trail is accessible, safe and welcoming to all.
Expected Outcomes
The NOMA will assess the current conditions of the Bay Trail and will identify:
- Access and lack of access to the Bay Trail, with a particular focus on Equity Priority Communities;
- Existing amenities and lack of amenities, with a particular focus on Equity Priority Communities;
- Maintenance needs and maintenance best practices for the Bay Trail; and
- Systems to standardize improvements to access, amenities and maintenance of the Bay Trail.
The project will engage residents of Equity Priority Communities through cultural asset mapping to identify and interpret culturally significant historic resources, landscapes and objects that convey the layered histories of the places and people along the Bay Trail.
Findings and recommendations from the project will be displayed on publicly available maps and in an assessment and guidance document.
